August 21, 2026, Georgetown – Guyana’s Under-14 Boys have advanced to the Tier II Final of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Challenge Series after defeating St. Martin, in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 2–2 scoreline in regulation time.
Guyana faced its toughest test against the French side, falling 1–0 behind at halftime before mounting a strong second-half response. Dane Vancooten found the back of the net in the 45th minute, while Cavon Peters added Guyana’s second in the 62nd minute to level the match at 2–2 and force a penalty shootout.
Guyana held its nerve from the penalty spot to secure a 3–2 shootout victory, with Dontay Kowlesser, Wayshawn Fore and Adiel Hamilton successfully converting their penalties to book Guyana’s place in the final.
The squad have enjoyed an impressive unbeaten run throughout the competition, opening their campaign with a commanding 8–1 victory over Montserrat, followed by a 4–1 triumph over Anguilla and a 1–0 win against The Bahamas. The winning streak earned Guyana the highest ranked team in the Tier II Group Stage.
Guyana will now face neighbouring Suriname on Sunday, August 23, in the CFU Challenge Series Tier II Finals, with the young Golden Jaguars aiming to complete a remarkable tournament campaign by claiming the Tier II title.
