August 11, 2026, Georgetown - The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has officially released the Fixtures and Regulations (Version 1.1) for the 2026/27 Elite League Season 8, setting the stage for another exciting chapter of Guyana’s premier domestic men’s football competition.
Following the unprecedented success of Season 7, the GFF Elite League is set to return bigger, better and more competitive, with 10 clubs competing for the national championship and a substantially enhanced prize package designed to raise the stakes and reward clubs across the final standings.
The Elite League is Guyana’s top-tier men’s football competition, providing approximately six months of high-level competitive football and serving as the country’s principal scouting and player-development platform for identifying talent for the national teams.
Season 8 kicks off on Saturday, August 29, 2026, with Slingerz FC, Guyana Police Force FC, Guyana Defence Force FC, Western Tigers FC, Santos FC, Monedderlust FC, Ann’s Grove United, Den Amstel FC, Fruta Conquerors FC and newly promoted Camptown FC competing for the title.
The release of the Season 8 Regulations follows positive engagement and consultation between the GFF and all 10 participating Elite League clubs. The consultations provided an opportunity for clubs to provide feedback and recommendations aimed at strengthening the competition and improving the overall playing environment.
Among the key amendments for Season 8 are:
- Expanded club registration: Clubs may now register up to 35 players, increased from 30 in Season 7.
- Expanded match-day squads: The match-day roster has been increased from 20 to 23 players, providing greater squad depth and tactical flexibility.
- Home Match Hosting: The GFF is currently reviewing the commercial terms and infrastructure requirements for clubs that may wish to host their home matches at their own home venues. Any approved arrangements will be subject to the GFF’s assessment of the proposed venue and its ability to meet the required competition standards.
- Updated competition provisions: The Season 8 Regulations have been reviewed and updated based on the experience of Season 7 and feedback received from participating clubs.
Any approved arrangements relating to home-match hosting will be communicated by the GFF following completion of the review process.
GYD$ 12 Million Prize Package
A major feature of Season 8 is the significant increase in the overall prize package. The GFF has increased the rewards with the objective of raising the competitive stakes while ensuring that all 10 participating clubs benefit financially from their performance in the competition.
The Season 8 prize distribution is:
- 1st Place: GYD$4,000,000
- 2nd Place: GYD$3,000,000
- 3rd Place: GYD$2,000,000
- 4th Place: GYD$1,000,000
- 5th Place: GYD$500,000
- 6th Place: GYD$300,000
- 7th Place: GYD$300,000
- 8th Place: GYD$300,000
- 9th Place: GYD$300,000
- 10th Place: GYD$300,000
The total prize package of GYD$12 million represents a significant increase in the prize package.
The enhanced prize structure is intended to raise the stakes of the competition while providing meaningful financial rewards to every participating club.
The 10 clubs will compete across two rounds, with the first phase scheduled from August to November 2026. Following the scheduled competition break, the Elite League will resume in February 2027, with the championship scheduled to conclude in May 2027.
With expanded player rosters, increased financial rewards and strengthened competition regulations, Season 8 is designed to provide clubs with a stronger platform for competitive development while giving talented players greater opportunities to perform at the highest level of domestic football.
The GFF Elite League also remains a critical pathway for national team player identification, providing the GFF’s technical team with an extended and competitive platform to scout players for Guyana’s national teams.
