September 28, 2026, Roseau, Dominica – The Guyana Golden Jaguars Senior Men’s National Team continued their strong start to the 2026/2027 Concacaf Nations League campaign, securing a second consecutive victory and clean sheet with a commanding 2-0 win over the Cayman Islands on Sunday, September 27, at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica.
The victory moves Guyana to the top of Group A, League B, with six points from two matches, while Puerto Rico sits second with three points. The Golden Jaguars have also maintained a perfect defensive record through the opening two matches, scoring three goals and conceding none.
Guyana opened the scoring in the 16th minute through defender Liam Gordon, who finished decisively following a well-executed assist from forward Omari Glasgow. The Golden Jaguars doubled their advantage in the 36th minute when forward Osaze DeRosario found the back of the net, giving Guyana a 2-0 lead heading into the second half.
The Golden Jaguars remained disciplined and organised after the break, effectively managing the game and limiting the Cayman Islands’ opportunities to get back into the contest. The result marked Guyana’s second consecutive clean sheet of the campaign and reinforced the team’s strong start under Head Coach Marco Bonofiglio.
Reflecting on the team’s performance and progress following the two victories, Coach Bonofiglio highlighted the players’ commitment, fighting spirit and growing confidence, while acknowledging the importance of maintaining defensive discipline as the campaign progresses.
“We’re achieving our objectives, and the lads have been playing phenomenal. They’ve shown tremendous spirit, fight and, importantly, growing confidence. Having two consecutive clean sheets is a huge positive for us, particularly because keeping clean sheets was one of our priorities coming into these matches. There are still a few things we need to tweak, but the group is happy, the confidence is high, and now our full focus turns to the next two matches in Puerto Rico.”
With two victories secured from the opening two matches, the Golden Jaguars now turn their attention to the next phase of the Nations League campaign. Guyana will travel to Puerto Rico for two crucial encounters against Dominica on October 1 and October 4, as the team looks to build on its perfect start and strengthen its position in Group A. The upcoming fixtures will provide another opportunity for the Golden Jaguars to demonstrate their progress, maintain their defensive consistency and continue their pursuit of promotion within the Concacaf Nations League, while keeping their pathway toward qualification for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup firmly in sight.
