– FRUTA CONQUERORS “A” AND “B” TEAMS DOMINATE OPENING MATCHES

28th October, Georgetown: At the end of the first double-header of the GFF-Always National Women’s Development League (WDL), Fruta Conquerors FC cemented their intention to be a competitive force when both their first and second teams comprehensively defeated their respective opponents.

In the first match, Fruta Conquerors “B” team defeated Foxy Ladies by 8 – 2 goals with a hat-trick from Annastacia Horsham in the 8th, 17th and 41st minute, a brace from Shamya Daniels in the 48th and 49th minutes respectively and a goal apiece from Jammaica Hunte in the 7th minute, Amanda Mc Kenzie in the 31st minute and Alleia Alleyne in the 26th minutes respectively. In response, Shontel Greene and Shamika Marcus made their mark on the board with goals in the 24th and 37th minute respectively for the Foxy Lady FC.

In the second match, which began at 16:00hrs, a double hat trick by Lekeisha Pearson in the 2nd, 17th, 20th, 37th, 43rd and 50th minute set the pace for a comprehensive win for the Fruta Conquerors FC “A” team against Buxton Youth Developers by a 15 – 0 margin. This was complemented by Tiandi Smith with a haul in the 1st, 9th, 14th and 48th minute respectively and followed by a hat trick from Odessa Romeo in the 10th, 11th and 21st minute. Selena Chan and Kendra Thomas registered goals in the 25th and 36th minute respectively.

Prior to the match held at the Tucville Ground, the teams were greeted by GFF’s President Wayne Forde and other GFF officials. Forde also did the official kickoff.

The WDL seeks to, among others, significantly increase the player population across Guyana, act as a base of the Talent Identification recruitment pathway and produce players for the GFF national teams. It will be played in 11 regions including Upper Demerara, Essequibo, Madhia, Berbice, Bartica and Moruca.

Matches in the other regions are scheduled to begin on November 3.
