The GFF-Always National Women’s Development League will continue this weekend in three regions as the tournament seeks to have continuous and consistent women’s football in Guyana.

In Georgetown, Fruta Conquerors ‘A’ team will be looking to continue their winning ways at Tucville Ground when they face off against Foxy Ladies at 15:00hrs. In the ancient county of Berbice, action will kick off at Number 5 Ground beginning at 12:00hrs with the West Side Conquerors FC against NA United FC and Cougars FC versus Orealla Falcons FC at 14:00hrs respectively. Madhia will host one match at 16:00hrs featuring Madhia Gold Getters versus Micam Eagles at 16:00hrs.

Following last weekend’s matches, Fruta Conquerors ‘A’ consolidated their lead at the top of the Georgetown division on Saturday, beating their Fruta Conquerors ‘B’ team rivals 4-0 at the Tucville Ground. Fruta Conquerors‘A’ captain and national team player Odessa Romeo netted twice, including a stunning long-range free kick, while goals from Tiandi Smith and Kenesha Williams completed the victory.

The league, featuring a shorter format and seven-a-side matches and a record 49 teams in divisions across the country, also kicked off in Mahdia and Berbice over the weekend. In Mahdia, Micam Eagles ‘B’ triumphed 4-0 over Micam Eagles ‘A’ to take an early lead in the division, with two goals apiece from Claudette Kemfume and Shondell Bellarmine.

In Berbice, New Amsterdam United put four past Orealla Falcons without reply at the double-header opening round at Number 5 Ground on Saturday. The win puts United top of the Berbice division on goal difference. Natasha Halley etched her name onto the score sheet twice, with additional goals from Ayana Walker and Chante Leacock.

The GFF-Always National Women’s Development League, also sponsored by the official Ansa McAl beverage partner iCool and Gaico Construction, is part of the GFF’s strategy to develop women’s football across the country, alongside girls’ participation in the GFF-Kool Kidz Grassroots national programme and nationwide GFF-Scotiabank Academy Training Centres.
