GUYANA POLICE FORCE – RFA 5-A-SIDE FUTSAL TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF TOMORROW

GPF-RFA Futsal Launch – Representatives Of Each Body Ready To Kick Off Futsal Tournament

In observance of the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) 180th anniversary, the Lethem branch of the GPF has teamed up with the Rupununi Football Association (RFA) to host a 5-A-Side futsal tournament tomorrow at the Tabatinga Sports Ground, Lethem.

The one-day activity will feature 16 teams – five female and 11 male teams – beginning at 13:00hrs. The male teams will include Moco Moco FC, Guyana Police Force (GPF), Rising Stars FC, Snatchers FC, Gladiators FC (A & B teams), Guyana Rush Saints FC, Terminators FC, Far East Sports Club, Potarinau Sky Kings FC and Guyana Defence Force. The female teams are the Guyana Rush Saints, Gladiators FC, Far East United FC, Snatchers FC and Potarinau FC.

The knockout tournament is part of a Day-of-Sports and will see the male teams placed in two groups, playing against each other to the final while the female teams will be playing straight matches. The opening matches for each will see Moco Moco vs Guyana Police Force for the males while the females will see Guyana Rush Saints FC vs Gladiators FC. The tournament was launched at the Indigenous People Conference Hall last Friday at 18:30hrs. Present at the launch were representatives of both RFA and GPF who gave brief remarks and representatives of several football clubs from Lethem including the Guyana Defense Force who will be taking part in this competition.  In attendance on behalf of the RFA was President Rayan Farrias who emphasized how inspirational and brilliant the initiative is to Lethem and the Guyana Police Force.

Subordinate Officer In Charge Lethem Sgt 20113 Connell gave brief overview of the activities to mark the 180th anniversary and made emphasis of the rules of the various sports to be observed as discipline is the hallmark of the GPF. In giving the featured address, Superintendent King charged all participants and members to give of their best and reminded them that this initiative is not only because of the Force’s anniversary but serves as the GPF’s continued will and desire to have a much closer relationship with all communities, villages and stakeholders as a means of effectively fulfilling the Force’s mandate of service and protection.
