PRESIDENT WAYNE FORDE EXTENDS GREETINGS IN OBSERVANCE OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

8th March, 2018, Georgetown: President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Wayne Forde, extended greetings to women, especially those in the football fraternity, in observance of International Women’s Day.

In a message for the day, which is being observed under the theme #PressForProgress, and posted on the GFF’s social media portals, Forde acknowledged the “invaluable contribution of women.”

Forde while noting the achievements of the GFF relative to women’s development said that the Council is committed to gender parity in the fraternity: “The fraternity has an expanding base of women involved in various capacities at leadership, technical and administrative levels – coach, referee, physiotherapist, team manager, equipment manager, professional staff etc. The current Council has three women who serve to inform policies and execute the mandate of the GFF, a remarkable accomplishment regionally and, arguably, globally. Additionally, December 2017 saw the election of a new president of the National Association of Women’s Football (NAWF) who has committed to the development of women’s football especially in the hard-to-reach areas of Guyana.”

The profile of women’s football in Guyana has been increased with the implementation of the GFF’s technical development strategy. Among the achievements listed include: more girls being introduced to the game via the Grassroots and formal programme of the nationwide GFF-Scotiabank Academy Training Centres (ATCs); increased national encampment for girls to continuously harness their football / life skills and match readiness; Guyana’s hosting of the CONCACAF U17 Women’s Qualifiers, and the execution of the Women’s Development League.

The GFF will observe the month by showcasing them, via social media, in the daily #TheAssist, a social media series, which seeks to inspire, encourage, inform and motivate.
